This remarkable statue of Christ is considered the world’s largest Art Deco installation. Constructed between 1926 and 1931, this statue rests on the peak of the 2300 ft tall Corcovado Mountain. The statue rests on a 26 ft tall pedestal and is 98 ft tall. The arm span of the statue is spread 92 ft wide. Due to its massive size, the statue has often been struck by lightning, which has caused some damage to the statue. During a storm in 2014, the tip of the statue’s right thumb was damaged. This particular Christ the Redeemer Statue attracts a significant number of tourists to Rio De Janeiro and is so magnificent that it is listed among the 7 wonders of the world.

2. Christ the King, Poland

This 172 ft tall statue depicting Jesus Christ wearing a crown and standing with open arms, is considered to be the tallest statue of Christ in the world (when measured including the podium on which the statue stands). This statue was completed in November 2010. It was a crowdfunded project initiated by a priest and is located in the small city of Świebodzin.

3. Cristo della Minerva, Rome, Italy

This 81 ft tall statue is as famous as the statue in Rio De Janeiro. Literally translated into the English language as “Christ the Redeemer”, this statue was sculpted from marble by the Renaissance artist Michelangelo around 1521. The sculpture of Cristo della Minerva sits in the Church of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva in Rome.

4. Monumento al Divino Salvador del Mundo, El Salvador

Literally translated to “ Monument to the Divine Saviour of the World”, this statue of Jesus stands on top of a globe which is placed on a high column with a cross on it. This statue of Christ thus depicts him as an eternal and holy guardian and protector. First completed in 1942, the Monumento al Divino Salvador del Mundo was restored and repainted in 2010, after being damaged by the earthquake of 1986.

5. Cristo De La Concordia, Bolivia

This statue of Christ helps mark cardinal directions with the statue’s right hand pointing to the south, while the left one points towards the south. Literally translated to “Christ of Peace”, this structure shows Christ standing with his arms spread out. It is located on top of the San Pedro Hill adjacent to the Bolivian city of Cochabamba. The statue is 133 ft tall.

6. Christ of the Ozarks, USA

Located on the Magnetic Mountain near Eureka Springs in the American state of Arkansas, this sculpture of Christ was sculpted by Emmet Sullivan. It is known for its unique features, quite different from most of the sculptures of Christ around the world. The sculpture was erected in 1966 and stands 65.5 ft tall. It is one of the only largescale two statues of Jesus Christ in the USA.

7. King of Kings and Lux Mundi, USA

A 62ft tall sculpture of Christ, known as the King of Kings was damaged heavily by lightning and then destroyed by fire in 2010, barely six years after it was built. Later, in 2012, Lux Mundi, a 52 ft tall statue replaced the previously destroyed figure, at the Solid Rock Church in Monroe, Ohio. This is one of the two largescale statues of Christ in the USA.

8. Christ of Vũng Tàu, Vietnam

Located on the top of Mount Nho, this statue is 118 ft tall (including the podium on which it stands). The statue’s 60 ft arm span is spread over the Vietnamese city of Vũng Tàu. Completed in 1993, this statue allows visitors adhering to a “modest” dress code to move around inside the statue, with the help of its stairwell.

9. Christ the Redeemer, Andes-Chile Border

This statue is located on the highest point of an old road between the Argentinian city of Mendonza and the Chilean city of Santiago. It was constructed in 1904 to commemorate cordial relations between the two countries. The statue is also known as “Christ of the Andes” and was sculpted by Alonso in 1902.

10. Cristo Rei, Portugal

Built by the Portuguese in the aftermath of the Second World War, this statue was built from 1959 to 1969. The name Cristo Rei literally translates to Christ the Redeemer and was inspired by the Brazilian statue sharing the same name. It is a monumental shrine dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus located in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal.
